Zebra crossing are designed to protect pedestrians from motorists and this is according to the high way code .
Unfortunately nowadays drivers are so disrespectful on zebra crossing. Such drivers endanger the life of pedestrians especially school children.
A Mazda Axela registration number AFK 9742 driven by a young man who could be barely 20, rammed at the back of a Honda fit that had stopped just before a zebra crossing.
The accident happened this afternoon at Coghlan Primary School.
The young man could have been driving under the influence of alcohol as some of his friends who were accompanying him were visible drunk.
From the damage incurred by the
Mazda Axela proved that he was speeding.
The entire front bumper and the right side fender disloged and fell to the ground .The right headlight was totally damaged.
It is by shire luck no student from Coghlan was injured .
When contacted for comment , Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo Provincial Press liasing Officer Abedinigo Ncube said that police are deployed at zebra crossing when there is a need or at pick up hours .
Pupils from Coghlan Primary School had just knocked off from school .
Inspector Ncube went on to say ,”but what matters is that all motorists should know that where there is Zebra crossing and school children, it is upon them, actually its a requirement that they take note of that( the Zebra Crossing) .
As such motorists are urged to respect zebra crossing especially the one next to a school.
