The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) ‘s WeMAST project, has hosted a two days training on Earth Observation (EO) Applications in Wetland Monitoring and Assessment in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
The training was hosted under the theme “Towards enhancing the utilization of Earth Observation in wetlands management and restoration”.
The training was designed In a way to provide individuals, institutions, and decision-makers with steeper existential knowledge and skills in the use of EO data and geospatial techniques in wetland mapping and vulnerability assessment.
“The main focus of Phase II is not just about having a project but having a project that is changing the way wetlands are being managed on the ground meaning having the impact”, said the WaterNet Executive Manager and Head of WaterNet Secretariat Prof. Jean-Marie Kilishye Onema.
He went on to urge the attendees from different countries to become constant users of the geo portal because that will show that there is some value in some of the products coming.
A geoportal is a type of web portal used to find and access geographic information and associated geographic services via the Internet. Geoportals are important for the effective use of geographic information systems and are a key element of a spatial data infrastructure.-
