Writer, Maskandi and Amapiano musician Zenzele Nkomo sings songs adapted from his poems and short stories. When he writes a poem, it is converted to a song.

“My musical journey was inspired by my collection of literary works. All my songs are adapted from my poems because we live in a society where there are different people with different interests. Some people may relate better  to my messages through poetry and others through music’, said Nkomo.

Nkomo revealed that he chose to deliver his message musically using the Maskandi genre because he embraces and aims to revive his Ndebele culture and language.

“I started writing poems when I was at school in 1996 and then  I published my first anthology titled Sigiya ngolwethu with Abalobi bakithi in  2014. The second anthology was titled  ‘Sivus’olwenkaba’ and was published in 2017. I also have a novel titled ‘ukufulathela'”, added Nkomo.

He founded his own publishing company and named it Mhlaba Mkhulu Publishers which is his grandfathers name.

In an exclusive interview with ZIM GBC NEWS Nkomo also mentioned his musical journey in detail:

” In music, so far i have worked on two albums, which are izifiso ezingasafezekanga and KuLimpopo. In both albums i sang both my genres (Maskandi and Amapiano). I have performed both albums at the Hillbrow theater in South Africa and at different gigs in Johannesburg. I have also featured some Maskandi artists namely, Inkunzi yehlathi, Mzilikazi KB and many others”

He also announced that he is planning on releasing a new single titled ‘Vuka’ which will be released end of April this year. The single addresses the issue of laziness in the society.
