A serial rapist is on the loose in Bulawayo.
The man who still has not been apprehended is said to have raped 15 girls so far.
The man pretends to be a Malayitsha (a cross border transporter of goods) so as to pounce on his unsuspecting victims.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the incidents through Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
The rapist’s modus operandi is that he studies the victims and knows about their background before he acts.
After verifying his facts, he steps up and knocks at your doorstep and pretends that he has been given goods to deliver from South Africa by the victims relatives.
Since he would have done his homework right, he will present information to his victims about their relatives who are in the diaspora whom he claims would have sent groceries to the family.
He would have detailed information such as names of the relatives and their work places.
He is said to be targeting households that are occupied by females, or houses whose male occupants would have gone to work.
The rapist tells his unsuspecting victims that his car has had a problem then he asks them to accompany him to where the claims the car would be to be like Gwabalanda another surbub in the Western areas if Bulawayo.
Ast. Insp. Msebele said the culprit uses a Honda Fit.
He chockes, beats up or draws out a knife to threaten his victims before raping them. He then robs them of any money or cellphone that the victim will be carrying then he dumps them anywhere.
He has wrecked havoc in Pumula North, Pumula South, Pumula Old, Gwabalanda, Luveve, Lobengula West, Magwegwe and Cowdray Park.
Ast. Insp. Msebele is urging the public to verify with their relatives who are in South Africa to check if they sent anything. People must not just entertain a strangers at all costs.
A piece of advise was given to those in South Africa who want to send groceries back home should use proper and safer channels.
“I have heard about Malaicha.Com, in town you would rather use Malaicha.Com. There are buses that you can use,” she added.
The ZRP is carrying out investigations as to how this serial rapist gets hold of information of several Malayitshas who are the ones who deliver goods to these victims.
It is the information that is real which the rapist has used to lure his victims.
His stories seem so genuine as to be believable as they are common occurrences amongst these cross order transporters.
Neighbours have been asked to desist from devulging information to strangers about other neighbours. This rapist is suspected to be getting some information from neighbours as he can ask for names of people who stay at a particular targeted house.
Youths who normally hangout by bridges are suspected to be people who also volunteer information to this culprit unknowingly.
The police have emphasised that the victims that he has raped his last. The long arm of the law will catch up with him.
So far the rapist’s name is not known. Anyone with information that can lead to his arrest can contact any nearest Police Station.
