Meli The Cyclist is set to cover a distance of 2500kn in a Vital Breakfast Ultra Cycle Challenge.

The South African based Zimbabwean professional cyclist Meli Ndlovu commonly known as Meli The Cyclist faces a new challenge as he takes a feat of cycling from Durban in South Africa to Lusaka the capital of Zambia.

Vital Breakfast Ultra Cycle Challenge will be an awareness campaign on Hypertension (BP).

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is blood pressure that is higher than normal. Your blood pressure changes throughout the day based on your activities. Having blood pressure measures consistently above normal may result in a diagnosis of high blood pressure (or hypertension).

The higher your blood pressure levels, the more risk you have for other health problems, such as heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.

Meli is suppose to complete the 2500km journey in a space of 7 days from the 12th to 19th of April 2022.

Few months back he defied odds setting a record after he cycled from Johannesburg South Africa to Bulawayo within a period of two days in an awareness against COVID-19.

The Durban to Lusaka challenge is sponsored by Vital Breakfast a South African based food company.

The challenge will begin in Durban passing through Johannesburg then headed for Bulawayo, from Bulawayo Ndlovu will cycle northwards heading in the direction of Harare before he crosses the border to Zambia where he will finish the challenge in Lusaka, Zambia.

In an interview with Zim GBC News, Ndlovu described his love for cycling as a sport and as a profession. He wishes to share the knowledge with upcoming cyclists.

“If I don’t cycle I don’t feel well, when I’m here in Zimbabwe I set challenges for myself, I normally cycle from Kezi to Bulawayo. I have cycled from Plumtree to Bulawayo.” said Meli Ndlovu.

Ndlovu is willing to do a lot of campaigns through cycling but he lacks sponsorship. He uses his own funds to make the impossible possible.

“I’m doing this, one it’s awareness on BP this time and I’m willing to do more awareness campaigns through cycling as long I will manage to get sponsors, or donation since I’m doing these awareness using my own personal pocket money. No one is helping me”, Ndlovu added.

Therefore Meli Ndlovu is appealing to stakeholders that would want to work hand in hand with him since he is an asset to help him with sponsorship in order for him to carry out his campaigns that are so helpful to the community.

After he completed the Johannesburg -Bulawayo COVID-19 awareness campaign, Meli had an opportunity to meet up with the city fathers, His Worship the Mayor of Bulawayo Councillor Solomon Mguni and his deputy Councillor Mlandu Ncube who both spoke on reviving the sport (cycling) in Bulawayo.

“Tour Of Bulawayo” cycling campaign was suggested by the deputy mayor that it would take place in Bulawayo as they are willing to work hand in glove with donors.

The mayor’s promises of reviving the sport in Bulawayo are still yet to be seen. According to Meli Ndlovu at the moment nothing has happened yet.

More companies from outside the country are working with Meli Ndlovu to do their campaigns, where are our own stakeholders?

Meli Ndlovu is a Zimbabwean by birth but this lack of support within the country might force the veteran cyclist to search for greener pastures outside the country.
